RISD Museum of Art in Providence RI

Nestled in the historic East Side of Providence, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art exhibits works of art and design representing diverse cultures from ancient to now. The museum houses impressive collections of paintings, decorative art, contemporary art, Asian art, sculpture, drawings, mosaics, photography and textiles in its beautiful galleries, and offers changing exhibitions that celebrate past and present. Marvel at amazing works of art from the 6th-century to contemporary 21st-century paintings and design objects. RISD offers art studios, classes, art and design labs, tours and special concerts. The museum is a lovely walk from the hotel or a quickcomplimentry shuttle ride away.

Art Collection

Experience the impressive collections of art that span centuries and cultures, from 6th century Greek and Roman works to contemporary art and design of the 2st century. The museum’s stunning galleries display paintings, decorative and contemporary art, Asian art, sculpture, drawings, mosaics, photography and textiles that celebrate cultures past and present. The acclaimed Contemporary Art collection includes painting, sculpture, video, and mixed media, from 1960 to present, and showcases major paintings by Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.

Changing Exhibitions

RISD Museum of Art offers an exciting schedule of rotating exhibitions throughout the year, like “Andy Warhol’s Photographs.” Check the museum website for upcoming exhibits, shows, and events that always enlighten and inspire art lovers. The museum also features classical and pop concerts in the Grand Gallery.


  • Does the Museum offer group tours?

    The museum offers self-guided and guided tours for students and groups up to 60 people. Guided tours must be scheduled at least 4 weeks in advance. The museum also offers tours and interactive programs for families so kids learn through creative thinking, visual interpretation, and engaging with the artistic process. Check out cool family tours and sessions, including Family See & Sketch, Tours for Tots, and the Open Studio, where kids create their own art.
  • Is there a place to shop and eat?

    Located in the Chace Lobby, RISD WORKS is a cool shop selling books, jewelry, toys, home décor, furniture, clothes, logo souvenirs and artwork created by alumni and faculty of the Rhode Island School of Design. The venue also offers a selection of sandwiches, snacks and drinks, to eat there. No food or beverages are allowed in the galleries.
