We also celebrate cultural and historical facets of the Ocean State. Through our partnership with the Rhode Island Historical Society, we proudly display important early Providence artifacts. Some objects, like the Flintlock pistol carried by Col. Ephraim Bowen Jr. while serving in the Revolutionary War, date back to the late 1700s. Also on display are culinary artifacts, such as a menu autographed by John F. Kennedy, which are on loan from the Johnson and Wales Culinary Archives. Learn about our one of our nation’s premiere boat builders, the Herreshoff family, and their America’s Cup yacht building dominance of the late 1800’s. Also on display is one of the earliest marine steam engines ever produced.
